Tiger Grants

The Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery, or TIGER Discretionary Grant program, provides a unique opportunity for the United States Department of Transportation to invest in road, rail, transit and port projects that promise to achieve national objectives.

Through a highly competitive grant process, New Haven’s Route 34 Downtown Crossing Project was awarded a $16 million TIGER grant in 2010 for the now completed Phase 1. Based in part on the success of Phase 1, the City of New Haven in 2016 was awarded a $20 million TIGER grant for Phase 2.

 

 

 

State of Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development

The Department of Economic and Community Development is the state’s lead agency responsible for strengthening Connecticut’s competitive position in the rapidly-changing, knowledge-based global economy. The agency takes a comprehensive approach to economic development that incorporates community development, transportation, education and arts and culture.

The Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development has supported the economic development aspects of the Downtown Crossing project with $21.5 million in support.

 

 

 

 

City of New Haven

The City of New Haven has allocated $7 million for Phase 1 and $12 million for Phase 2 and 3 for a total of $19 million to support the Downtown Crossing Project and will oversee all phases of design and construction.
